DAY 1

Balikesir

SUNDAY, 28/5/2023
On Sunday, we gathered at the bus station in Cankova at 4:45 a.m. and then headed to the airport in Ljubljana in two small vans. We arrived at the airport at 7:00 a.m. and first had breakfast there, and then checked in our luggage. After dropping off our luggage, we waited for our flight. At 8:40 we boarded the plane. Unfortunately, there were also complications, as one participant did not have a valid passport. Then we boarded the plane and sat down. During the comfortable flight, we could watch movies, listen to music and play games. It was the first flight for many of the participants, so it was all the more special. We also got a meal on the plane that included eggs, butter, bread and other Turkish specialties. We were also given a drink, which we all happily drank. The flight lasted 2 and a half hours. Upon arrival at the airport, there was a little confusion, as Istanbul airport is considered the largest in the world, but this fact was not a big obstacle for us. While waiting for the transport, we looked around the airport, then with the help of navigation we found the exit ourselves, where the transport was waiting for us. Soon we crossed the Bosphorus and were on the Asian side for the first time. After a two-hour drive, we unexpectedly took a van to the ferry and crossed the Sea of Marmara to the other side, as this route was a shortcut for us. The ferry was also special for some, as it was the first time they were on such a ride. After the ferry ride, we continued our journey to the hotel, but again everything did not go as it should, as the van was already old and did not go up the hill as fast as it should have. In addition, we arrived in the country of Turkey on the day of the election, due to which there were crowds, people screaming and waving flags, but despite all these problems, we arrived at the hotel happily. As soon as we settled in the town of Balikesir, we went to dinner, as we were all very hungry. Dinner consisted of chicken, potatoes and various sauces and bread. At the end, we also learned about Turkish tea. We then arrived at Hotel Serel around 11:00 p.m., where we showered and prepared for the next day.
